The brother of one of the officers killed in the Eastern Freeway tragedy is using his grief to create change. Alex Prestonny is about to set off running from Mildura to Melbourne to make our roads

safer. Alex Prestonny is taking a major step forward as he deals with the loss of his brother Josh. It's something that is empowering for myself and for other people to be able to do this.

The Highway Patrol officer will run for road trauma in memory of Constable Josh Prestonny and the three other police members killed in the Eastern Freeway tragedy in 2020. I remember it just so vividly.

It's one of those things that's like the core memory that I'll never forget. People really don't understand it until they've lived through it and sadly this year so many families have already experienced the same loss.

With Victoria's road toll at its highest point in more than a decade, Alex is stepping out running 550 kilometres from Mildura to Melbourne on a mission to make our roads safer. The better that we can sort of bridge that the gaps that might be in those decisions

and mindsets about using the road the better and the more safe it could be for everybody. The senior constable also raising funds for programs that promote road safety. Alex will start his run at the end of this month.

It will take around 25 days before finishing here at the police memorial. There's going to be times where it's going to be physically demanding, mentally demanding but I will always just say nothing is harder than what we went through.
